About composition

Piracetam belongs to the category of the nootropic drug which means it improves the cognitive functions in the brain, it also shows its effect on the vascular system by reducing erythrocyte adhesion to vascular endothelium, hinder vasoconstriction and facilitate microcirculation.
Citicoline is act as the choline donor used for the biosynthesis of choline like phosphoglycerides. It is used to provide supportive care , treatment in case of mania, stroke, bipolar disorder.

Mechanism of Action

Citicoline:

It works by increasing the concentration of the brain chemical i.e phosphatidylcholine. this chemical is important for the functioning of the brain. It also increases the amount of other chemicals which is important for transmitting signals.

Piracetam:

Piracetam binds to the polar heads in the phospholipid membrane and counteract the amyloid peptides because amyloid peptides causes disorganization of the membrane leading to neuronal death so piracetam inhibits amyloid and increase membrane stability.

Pharmacokinetics

Citicoline:

Absorption: It is absorbed by oral route
Metabolism: It is metabolized in the liver to choline which further undergoes concentrate in the tissues to produce acetylcholine and phosphatidylcholine.
Excretion: It is excreted via both by urine and feces

Piracetam:

Absorption: It is absorbed by oral route of administration
Excretion: It is excreted unchanged in urine there is no such metabolism of piracetam.
